The Journal Committee at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) is dedicated to fostering and promoting a strong culture of legal research and writing within the academic community. It plays a pivotal role in nurturing the intellectual environment of the university by providing platforms for both established and emerging scholars to contribute to the field of law through scholarly articles, essays, case comments, and book reviews.
One of the key annual initiatives led by the Committee is the organization of the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Competition (RILEC), an event that invites participation from students worldwide. The competition seeks to encourage critical thinking and original research on contemporary legal issues. By hosting this prestigious competition, the Committee aims to provide a forum for budding legal scholars to engage with important legal questions and present innovative solutions.
In addition to organizing RILEC, the Journal Committee is responsible for publishing two peer-reviewed academic journals each year: the RMLNLU Law Review and the RMLNLU Journal on Communication, Media, Entertainment, and Technology (CMET) Law. Both journals provide platforms for academics, practitioners, and students from around the globe to contribute their research and insights into the ever-evolving world of law. The RMLNLU Law Review covers a broad spectrum of legal topics, making it accessible to contributors and readers with diverse interests in the field. On the other hand, the RMLNLU Journal on CMET Law specifically focuses on emerging and specialized areas within law, including communication, media, entertainment, and technology. This specialization allows the journal to carve out a niche in a rapidly changing legal landscape and attracts articles that address cutting-edge issues.
The Journal Committee’s role extends beyond publishing journals; it also actively contributes to the development of legal writing skills among students. One of its significant initiatives is the publication of the RMLNLU Law Review blog. This blog serves as an accessible and dynamic platform for law professionals, academics, and students to voice their opinions and analysis on pressing contemporary legal issues. By fostering discourse through blog posts, the Committee ensures that legal debates are not confined to academic journals but are open to broader public engagement.
To further strengthen the culture of academic writing at RMLNLU, the Committee organizes workshops on legal research and writing. These workshops aim to equip students with the necessary tools and techniques for producing high-quality research and writing. By providing practical training on legal citation, structuring arguments, and critical analysis, these workshops contribute to the overall academic development of the university's student body.
Additionally, the Journal Committee hosts Scriptura, an annual article-writing competition exclusively open to first-year students. Scriptura is designed to encourage newcomers to the legal field to engage with legal research early in their academic journey. By offering a competitive but supportive environment, the competition nurtures young talents and instils in them the values of rigorous research and effective writing. The initiative is essential for building a foundation in legal research, as first-year students are given the opportunity to explore complex legal issues and develop their writing skills from the very beginning of their law school experience.
Through these initiatives, the Journal Committee upholds a tradition of academic excellence at RMLNLU and actively contributes to the broader legal academic community. By engaging students, faculty, and scholars worldwide, the committee has established itself as a cornerstone of RMLNLU’s academic pursuits, constantly striving to elevate the standards of legal research and writing.
