PGDMLEE

Media law encompasses the legal framework governing telecommunications, broadcasting, advertising, and the entertainment sector. It covers various forms of media, including television, radio, print media, and social and digital media. This legal discipline addresses censorship, intellectual property, and information technology. Media regulations vary across countries and are continuously evolving to accommodate emerging platforms. Ethical issues, such as fake news and propaganda, are of great concern in the age of social media. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University Lucknow introduced a 'Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics (PGDMLEE)' to train individuals in media, entertainment, and ethics laws.

Notifications (2025-26)

  • Eligibility:
    • Admission to the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics Course shall be open to those candidates who have a minimum of a graduate degree in any discipline from a University recognized by U.G.C. with not less than 45% of the total marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST) and have been selected based on Written Test/Interview or any other mode of admission as may be decided by the University from time to time.
  • General Condition
    • Any candidate cannot claim admission as a matter of right, and it shall be entirely at the discretion of the University's Admission Committee for the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics Course.
    • No candidate will be allowed to be admitted to the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics Course if he does not fulfil the eligibility on the date of the Interview/Written Test or any other mode of admission decided by the University.
    • If two or more candidates get the same marks in the admission Written Test/Interview or any other mode of admission, then the total marks they obtained in the graduate course may be considered. Still further, if the total marks remain the same, then the candidate who is senior in age will be given preference over the others.

Intake

The total number of seats in each course subject shall not be more than 30 or as may be prescribed by the Academic Council from time to time. However, no course in any subject shall run if there are less than 15.

Reservation

Reservation to the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics Course for the candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC shall be by the rules prescribed by the UP Government from time to time.

Note:
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories shall have to submit the recent certificate of Caste/Tribe issued by the appropriate authority of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Candidates belonging to the OBC category shall submit the recent certificate of the caste and also a certificate to the extent that the candidates do not come in the creamy layer.

Fee Structure

The fee will be charged by the University in such a manner as is determined by the University authority from time to time. Existing fee details are available at the University website as well as in the University Admission Brochure

  • A candidate for the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics shall be required to:
    • Study Five Papers - Three papers in the first semester and Two Papers in the second semester, each of 100 marks.
    • Write a Dissertation in 1st Semester, which will also continue in the second semester on the subject approved by the Head of the Department in consultation with the guide, and it shall carry 100 marks.
    • Appear in Viva Voce Examination in I and II Semesters carrying 50 marks each.

  • The Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics course duration shall be one academic year.
  • The Academic Year shall be divided into two Semesters, which shall ordinarily be between July to November and January to May, with winter break and summer vacation as may be announced by the University.
  • The classes for the course will be held in the evening at the University, as per the schedule decided by the University.
  • The Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics examination shall consist of two-semester examinations. In each Semester, a candidate shall be examined in the courses prescribed for that Semester in accordance with the scheme prescribed by the University.
  • The examinations for the Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law, Entertainment and Ethics will be open to all the candidates who have undergone a regular course of study in the University and have put in not less than 70% attendance and further that the University takes no disciplinary action against the candidate.
  • The End-Term Examination will ordinarily be held in the last week of November and April for the first and second semesters, respectively.
  • An internal and external examiner shall conduct the Viva Voce Examination.
